The Migwani Children’s Project of Smithers

This purpose of this project is to raise funds to build a dormitory for 50 handicapped children in the Village of Migwani, Kenya.
Because of a tribal curse, these children are considered to be cursed by their families and the local culture.  They are virtually rejected and rely on charity for each meal they eat.  They have one set of clothes, and some of them no shoes.  An organization called Child Focus Africa (a Kenyan registered NGO) and its’ vollunteers will build the dormitory and teach the children some life skills until they are 16.

This project is close to my heart. I have worked with special needs children '91 to '08. My business of empowering others to recycle clothing into "Second Story" items such as T-Shirt quilts is my life's work. I believe strongly in giving back to my community and these children in Migwani are part of my global community. We breathe the same air and go to sleep with the same stars each night.
Therefore I pledge to donate $25 for every single sized T-shirt quilt made by my business Eco-Crazy Quilter. If you'd like to help, let me make you a twin sized quilt from your t-shirt collection. Call Carli at 250-846-5985 or email me at carlithequilter@gmail.com

Thanks for your comment. I believe we can make a difference despite our circumstances. Lines of poverty cover our earth unfortunately. I just taught a workshop in Hazelton on June 14th that taught about recycling of used clothing into a simple bag. I teach holistically, no patterns, I call it "No Fear Sewing" because I have learned how to work with learners who have different needs, styles, habits and behaviors that can interfere with real learning.
I work part time encouraging Life Skills to those in poverty in Smithers. Poverty is what we call the cycles of trauma of those who don't live, love or work like the rest of us. This discussion is about what we can do individually.
Therefore, my attempts to raise funds for the MIgwani Children's Project through quilting T-Shirt quilts is something I can do. I work to keep the cycles of trauma from happening in my life. I have the skills to help others who need a hand up. I dream of being able to go and teach in MIgwani.
