“From our assessment it became apparent that One Sky is a learning organization that enables flow, engages in shared visioning in a philosophical and practical way, strongly emphasizes systems thinking, and creates conditions for enabling emerging capacities and shifting worldviews”
Excerpt from Drishti Integral Assessment of One Sky
One Sky is a Canadian not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in the province of British Columbia under the Societies act in August 2000. Although some might call us an environmental NGO we like to think of ourselves in broader terms that include human rights, human well-being and even human potential. Others might think of us as a development NGO because we work in developing nations but we like to think we are developing ourselves and searching for mutual solutions in a globalized world.
Many of our challenges are shared so the idea of “developing” others seems inadequate. Some people would describe us as a research organization because of our interest in social change theory, while others might describe us as a leadership training school because of our emphasis on personal development. Some people note that we pursue solutions including appropriate technology green building and renewable energy and might describe us as a sustainable living centre.
However one might choose to describe us we think of ourselves as social change agents in a world of shared challenges doing our best to “promote sustainable living globally”. We work in some difficult and challenging places and we take on some of the world’s most pressing issues. Our hope is that we can serve to inspire others and to inspire ourselves to live under One Sky. The following pages explain some of the ways we approach this.
