Members Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to be a member of One Sky?
Ten bucks in Canadian funds! Yep, we kept the cost down in order to let just about anyone join us. Don’t hesitate to donate if you think this is too cheap. We take cash, cheques and money orders or you can use Paypal.
What does it mean to be a member?
Being a member means you have the full privileges of attending and voting at our Annual General Meeting. You can exercise your right to influence the board and to participate in guiding our direction. You can proudly claim that you are a part of this organization when we do cool things or accomplish great projects. You can make your views known when we don’t. You can put our logo up on your fridge. You can encourage others to become a member just like you.
What does it mean to be an associate member?
For those entities like other NGOs, businesses or associations that cannot join as individuals, joining as an associate is an ideal way to be a part of One Sky. Although you cannot vote you can support us and associate with us.
What does it mean to be a supporter of One Sky?
If for some reason you cannot join us and cannot associate with us but you really would like to support us we have this category especially for you. It means you can give us a donation and feel like you are in support of our activities. We won’t keep soliciting you or send you a membership reminder.
What else do I get as a member?
You can access the members page on our website and read minutes, documents and participate in One Sky chats. Our chats may include discussions on our projects, questions and answers regarding our philosophy and even the occasional interesting diatribe. Our chat page is only accessible to members. We will send you a newsletter to keep you informed on our activities. We thought about printing this but decided a ten dollar membership fee would not cover our costs and there is too much paper out there already. Instead we will send it to you electronically, publish it on our web page and personally give you a copy if you drop by the office. Of course, if you don’t have access to e-mail and cannot access a computer let us know and we will mail you a copy. One of these days when we get around to making a bumper sticker we might send you that as well.
Will you send me junk mail and solicit donations from me over the phone every Sunday night when I am busy eating?
At One Sky we figure that you did not sign up for direct mail solicitation. Every organization needs donations but somehow we figure it is our job to entice you to donate instead of solicit you to donate so don’t expect phone calls from us. There may be a day we phone you to let you know about an event or remind you to update your membership.
Can anyone be a member?
Well, no actually, not everyone can be a member. To be a member of One Sky we believe you need to understand and believe in our philosophy, support our mission statement and pay your membership fee. Each membership is approved by our Board of Directors and can be rescinded by the Board of Directors if a member demonstrates that they not acting within our community and beliefs or they are part of an organization or activity that contradicts our way of being. We understand this is vague and places a lot of responsibility on our directors but we figure it is intelligent and prudent.
How do I become a member?
Fill out the application form and send us ten bucks. Your membership will be automatically reviewed at the next board meeting and your name will be listed on our web page under the membership section. We will send you an e-mail confirming your membership and give you a log-in password that you should try not to lose.
When should I renew my membership?
You should renew your membership on the anniversary date of your approval as a member. Your status is posted on the membership page. You only need to be approved once and we will send you a reminder when your membership is due. In order to participate as a member in our AGA you must have a valid membership.
